Meet Alejandro. He is your 6:00/km Continuous Pacer for the 15km race, on September 21st.

He shares some insights into his running journey below.

What got you into running?

Actually, what kept me out of running was failing a lot of times, trying to run on my own. I would pick the hottest day of the summer to try and sprint down my street in nike basketball shoes and basketball shorts, and fail and fail again. I had no idea what I was doing, clearly. Sometime around 2018/19, a good friend who was also a work colleague invited me for an “easy” trail run. He showed me a few stretches, and started his watch, and away we went. He ran nice and slow, and we casually chatted, without me focusing too much on how far, how fast, or for how long we ran. As they say, the rest was history. Jeremy gets all the credit for my journey into running. 3 marathons later, with 2 more on the way this fall, I’m so grateful that I found running, and not surprised that it was through friendship.

What is your favorite race and why?

For me, I can unequivocally say, Riot Relay. A 140 km relay from Toronto to Blue Mountain, with your best buds, maybe a sprinter van, lots of peanut butter and croissants, good music, and amazing vibes. I think the opportunity, for me, of an event of this kind is that it allows for this beautiful experience to “get into your run” while being flanked by really amazing friends, all while participating in some friendly competition, both with yourself, your teammates, and the other teams running in the middle of Albion or Collingwood at 4:30 in the morning. Last year was my first time running this relay, and that is the most memorable racing experience I have had. We ran it again this year, and I feel grateful I got to experience different features of the relay.

Pacing is your main role for the Ajax Waterfront Race, how does this serve a purpose in your journey as a runner?

This feels like an opportunity to continue to “pay it forward”, for me. A great friend helped me find my footing as a runner, and helped support me to get started and provide me with the little push to go beyond what I had done before.

Meet Malhar @malhar__a. He is your 4:30/km Continuous Pacer for the 15km race, on September 21st.

He shares some insights into his running journey below.

What got you into running?

Well, about a year and a half ago, I was quite bored just coming out of COVID, and I wanted to find a group that I could run with, because it was something that I did when I was a young child, and it’s something that I have very fond memories of. I stumbled upon Running Waters, and I remember just how welcomed I felt. I had to walk half of the route, I did not have the appropriate footwear, but they kind of guided me throughout the process, and I’m very happy to get started running again.

What is your favorite race and why?

I would have to pick the Sporting Life 10K. I think that the 10K distance is a perfect blend between speed and endurance. As a result, I think the recovery isn’t as strenuous or long relative to the half marathon or the marathon. I think the route that we run is just spectacular. I love that downhill component straight down on Yonge Street, and I remember just how fast you feel when you run down that street.

Pacing is your main role for the Ajax Waterfront Race, how does this serve a purpose in your journey as a runner?

Pacing serves an important role in my journey as a runner because it provides me with a chance to help others hit their goals. That’s a rewarding feeling. Moreover, I can be a part of the race atmosphere without going all-out, removing the pressure to run my fastest while still enjoying the race day energy. Lastly, it’s a great way to build even-splits discipline which will help me become a better runner.

Meet Marvin @avinmarv. He will be your 7:00/km 10 and 1’s (6:45 walk adjusted) pacer for the 15km race, on September 21.

He shares insights into his journey:

What got you into running?

I started running during the early days of the pandemic—April 2020 to be exact. I still remember my first 1KM run at a 6:45 min/km pace. It was probably one of the hardest runs I’ve ever done. But the real turning point came when I went for a 5K run with an old gym buddy and couldn’t keep up. That feeling of falling behind sparked something in me. My competitive nature took over, and I used that moment as motivation to get stronger, faster, and go farther. Five years later, I’ve completed several marathons, tackled a few ultramarathons, and recently set personal bests in the 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon. This year, I’ve taken on my biggest challenge yet: running 26 marathons in one year.

What is your favourite race and why?

The TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon will always be my favourite race. There’s just something special about it—it truly captures the spirit and energy of the Toronto running community. Whether you’re on the course running or cheering from the sidelines, there’s support and excitement around every corner. It’s a race that reminds you how powerful and connected this community really is.

Pacing is your main role for the Ajax Waterfront Race, how does this serve a purpose in your journey as a runner?

For the Ajax Waterfront Race, I’m pacing the 7 min/km group. While many see running fast as the challenge, running significantly slower than your normal pace can be just as tough—if not harder. I’ve often found myself at the back of the pack, and I’ve come to love the role of being a sweeper. This time, I want to offer that same support to runners who might be tackling their very first 15K. It’s not about the time on the clock—it’s about the journey that got you to that start line, and ultimately, the finish. I’m excited to be part of that journey on one of the most scenic routes in the GTA, the Ajax Waterfront Trail. Let’s cross that finish line together—I can’t wait to see you all out there!

Originally it was for health and weight (I needed to buy larger pants and I didn't want to)... but I soon fell in love with it and it became my lifestyle!

What is your favourite race and why?

Has to be Georgina for me... not exactly a wow factor like Chicago or Toronto, but the course is great, very flat, and with awesome scenery of Lake Simcoe - plus that small town event feel to it

Pacing is your main role for the Ajax Waterfront Race, how does this serve a purpose in your journey as a runner?

I fell into love with running and basically I want everyone to feel that greatness - obviously you cannot make people feel what you feel but if I can help, even in such a small way, to make their running journey easier/better/or more enjoyable then I think that helps to share the gift that is running!

I have always been into running. I was on the cross country team in high school but was more focused at team sports at the time. Once I finished university I found it again and felt like it was a really great way to push myself to new limits and set goals for myself.

Registrations or shirt selections after this date will mean your shirt will be part of a second order and available for pickup from Kintec Whitby after the event (date TBD).

Why the deadline? Our shirts are supplied by New Balance and requires lead time for delivery. Also, as a not-for-profit event, we aim to avoid suplus inventory and extra costs - so we can maximize our financial support for Herizon House.
